Note Summary Requirements

Due Date:

The note summary is due on January 17, 2012.

Requirements:

As per our in class discussions, you essentially have two options for the completion of this project:

Option 1: You turn in a typed-up and fully revised note summary for the piece entitled “Clever Hans”

Option 2: You turn in a typed-up and fully revised note summary for the piece entitled “Watch the Birdie”

Requirements for both options:

1. You must write your note summary keeping all of our writing lessons in mind.

2. Be sure to double space your work and use Times New Roman font (size 12).

3. Read the rubric carefully.

4. Do not include a cover page. Instead, include a heading in which you include your name, your class, and the date (January 2012).

6. Staple the rubric to the final piece. The rubric can be found below.

Informational Writing Rubric (Grade 6)

Fantasy Writing Piece Requirements

Due Date:

The fantasy writing project is due on January 17, 2012.

Requirements:

As per our in class discussions, you essentially have two options for the completion of this project:

Option 1: You turn in a complete fantasy story (optimally around 3-5 pages in length.)

Option 2: You turn in a complete and detailed outline of your story, highlight ONE KEY SCENE from that outline, and write it out. (This should be between 2 and 3 pages in length. Consider this option if you find your story is very elaborate.)

Requirements for both options:

1. You must write your scene/story keeping all our writing lessons in mind

2. Be sure to double space your work and use Times New Roman font (size 12).

3. Read the rubric carefully.

4. If you are only writing one scene, be sure to turn in your outline!

5. Do not include a cover page. Instead, include a heading in which you include your name, your class, and the date (January 2012).

The ELA Quarterly will be on Thursday, January 12, 2012. You can download the outline here You should print this up, get it signed, and hand it in by Friday, January 6, 2012. The topics to study are also listed below:

Here are the topics to study:

1. Vocabulary:

Make sure that you study Unit 2 and 3 Vocabulary Words. These are the words in lessons 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Study synonyms and antonyms for all the words

2. Grammar:

Intensive and Reflective Pronouns
Recognize and correct inappropriate shifts in pronoun number and person (to be discussed in class soon)

3. Reading Comprehension

Part of the test will test your ability to read closely and carefully. You will be asked to explain the meaning of specific excerpts from reading passages.
Review the reading skills we have worked on for reading nonfiction texts.

4. Writing:

Study the Common Essay Structure.
Be able to identify the names and meanings of each part of an introduction, body paragraph and conclusion.
Review the Sixth Grade Sample essays on the Common Essay website (commonessay.wordpress.com). You will be asked to analyze parts of some of these essays.

The test will count twice as two 100 point tests towards the Quarter Two Report Card grade.
